Washington Nationals

Baseball is one of America’s favorite pastimes. It is played by thousands of people out there, children and adults. And, with its growing popularity, it’s no wonder for baseball to grow and become a national sport where almost a hundred leagues and teams compete to make a mark. Of the major baseball leagues known to man, the Washington Nationals is one of the most cheered and loved.

The Washington Nationals baseball team is an outstanding part of the East Division of the National League. It is known by most players and fans as The Nats who played and considered the RFK Memorial Stadium as their home. They are distinguished from the rest of the major leagues primarily for the colors of their uniform which includes blue, white and red. These colors are matched with the players of Washington Nationals wearing white jerseys and red hats for home games, or grey jerseys and dark blue hats for road games. They also alternate their uniform with gold and red jerseys.

Considering its history, the Washington Nationals was first founded as a baseball team in 1969. It first came out with the name Montreal Expos which then played in 1969 season of the National League. During those times, the team holds a few of outstanding players, including Maury Wills, Mudcat Grant, Bob Bailey, Coco Laboy, Don Hahn, Mack Jones, Gary Sutherland, and Rusty Staub. It is these people who first made The Nats known.

The team first attained its memorable victory in the 1979 baseball season. They had marked the record of 65 losses and 95 wins. However, in 1981, Washington Nationals had struggled to win the National League East Division title, which they had obtained in just a matter of three games against the Philadelphia Phillies. It was also in 1981 when they hit the mark of 60-48.

Following those years, the Major League had announced that the Washington Nationals will be moved to Washington, D.C., where they soon take their name. It was only in 2005 when the team was named as it is now.

Speaking of names, it’s noteworthy that the name Washington Nationals was original adopted by the Major League itself primarily due to the fact that Washington is deemed the national capital of the United States. They then started playing their first nine games with the banners mentioning their new name. They got 5-4 record that time, and then succeeded in getting 7-3 against the Philadelphia Phillies. They also had turned the Arizona Diamondbacks down in the game when they obtain a record of 5-3. Then, they had made a match with the Atlanta Braves where they get half of the game record.

A lot more memorable moments had happened with the Washington Nationals. The most memorable of them by far was the 2006 season when the Washington Nationals tickets were sold to more than 45 thousand of the team’s fans and supporters of the Major League Baseball. Sports statistics have noted that this record was the second largest in the history of baseball. The team defeated the New York Yankees after that by 3-2 when Ryan Zimmerman, the National’s Rookie, had made a “two-out two-run walk-off home run”. The other outstanding players who had made that success were Ramon Ortiz and Alfonso Soriano. The Nationals had obtained and remained the 5th placer in the East Division of the National League still in 2006.

With all such outstanding moments, it’s no surprise for people to consider the Washington Nationals as a promising team in baseball. It is currently operating under the management of the Major League Baseball and their tickets are expected to sell out fast because of its own number of supporters and fans. The Washington Nationals baseball schedule is already plotted for the fans to note of, so in case you want to know when the team will be playing, the schedule is readily made available by the Major League itself.
