San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres is San Diego, California’s major league baseball team and was founded in 1969. This baseball team is the reigning division champion of the National League Western Division. The San Diego Padres logo is a white intertwining S and D on uniform colors white, sand and dark blue. The team also comes with monikers such as ‘Say May Kids’ and ‘The Friars’. Matt Vasgersian coined the San Diego Padres these nicknames when they did two astounding consecutive runs in May during the 2005-2006 baseball season. They also carry on with their motto that says “Experience It.”

Throughout the history of the San Diego Padres, six different logos have already been used to identify the team. The first ever San Diego Padres logo features a friar standing in a figure resembling the sun with San Diego Padres on its exterior, swinging a bat that was written with at its top. The "Swinging Friar" logo has been on and off the team’s uniform since it was created and is now currently on the team jersey’s left sleeve. At present, the Swinging Friar is the mascot of the San Diego Padres. In 1985, it was replaced to a script-like logo wherein Padres was written upslope. This would later become the team’s script logo.

In 1989, the Padres’ scripted logo that was used from 1985 to 1988 was then put in a tan ring with a striped center that read "San Diego Baseball Club". This logo was then changed to a silver ring in 1991, with the scripted logo’s brown color changed to blue. This logo lasted for only a year and was then again changed by changing the ring’s colors. It was changed into a white ring with lesser stripes in the middle as well as the scripted Padres logo in darker shade of blue with orange hues.

At the end of the 2003 season, the logo was changed completely. The current San Diego Padres logo now resembles a home plate nestled in a baseball field with the script San Diego in gold font located at the top right portion, as well as the new Padres script that is written across the middle. The plates’ bottom is finished off with waves.

The San Diego Padres has had its good share of triumphs in the playoffs. They appeared in the playoffs in the years 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2006. The San Diego Padres gained their first World Series win in 1984 with the help of Tony Gwinn. The team has had experienced tough times in the following seasons, particularly from 1985-1996, and then won won again in 1998. Their recent challenge has spurred them to fight against the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West title. They have also been able to send some of the best Padres to participate in the All-Star Game. The San Diego Padres experienced their worst match that was ever recorded when they only went 52-110 in 1969. During their 1998 championship reign, the team was able to go 98-64, making it their most winning season ever.

The San Diego Padres’ biggest rivals both for post season and interleague are The San Francisco Giants, St Louis Cathedrals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners, respectively.
