Official Baseball Rules
Because baseball remains the American’s favorite pastime, it does not come as a surprise that there are certain rules and regulations of the game that have been amended. This is to suit the preferences of avid players of the game. But this is something that should not be done if you are a baseball player for the leagues. There are official baseball rules to follow, and this is something any ballplayer cannot do without.
Interestingly, there are a lot of facts that some avid baseball fans would not know about. For starters, did you know that the rules of baseball are actually played under three major rule codes? For starters, the code of Official Baseball Rules is used by the North American professional leagues, as well as a number of amateur leagues. The Sporting News Official Baseball Rules is one publication that a lot of baseball fans actively look for. And this is even used by a lot of umpires officiating the game as well. Yes, this is indeed one official baseball rulebook that is popular in the market. But if you prefer to get your own copy from the Internet, then you can download the Official Baseball Rules PDF version.
Another rule code that is used in the game of baseball is that of the NCAA. In fact, the baseball rulebook of the NCAA is the ones used by US collegiate baseball teams, and other teams of college-age players as well. And the NFHS rules are the ones used as basis for US high school baseball teams and other teams of high school-age players. The international baseball teams and youth baseball organizations, such as the Little League and the Cal Ripken League use amended versions of the Official Baseball Rules. There are not that many changes because the modifications are just of the slight kind.
When the game was modernized, not that many of the Official Major League Baseball Rules were modified. But this does not mean that the rulebook itself is free from errors. If you would leaf through the whole rulebook, you would see that there are indeed a number of errors. There are also some rules that need to be modified slightly. In fact, baseball experts have claimed that there are at least 50 errors in the rulebook itself. These baseball experts are Rick Roder and Chris Jaksa. Plus, there are a lot of rules in the book that are still subject to a lot of speculation and debate. For starters, there’s the designated hitter rule. This Major League Baseball official rule is still subject to a lot of controversy even to this very day. And this rule was added to the game more than 30 years ago!
But the static nature of the rules of baseball over the years is quite beneficial to the fans of the game. This provides the fans opportunities to compare team performances throughout the years, and throughout the different leagues as well. In other sports, this would be close to impossible because of the fact that the rules change over the years. Thus, there would be no concrete means or basis of comparison for whatever team performance. The significant changes of the rules of other sports can attribute to the lack of history in these sports as well. Because there are fewer reasons to compare teams from the past and the present, then there are no thorough comparisons being made between such teams anymore. This is true even if we are talking about the same team from different eras. This is quite sad, in a way, because this suggests that baseball is just about the only sport that has a lot of history to its name.
