Major League Baseball

Recognized as the premier baseball organization in North America, Major League Baseball manages two associations namely the American League and the National League. Both follow a partnership directorial scheme that has existed way back in 1903. Even with the said similarity, there is still a distinction between the two which you will discover later on this article. Moving on, it was only in 2000 that both were combined to establish what is popularly identified as MLB. The union has one hundred sixty- two games in each season administered to by a commissioner who looks into the entire aspect.

American League

Before joining the Major League Baseball, the American League came from the Western League which is a minor organization established in the Great Lakes region. Eventually, there was an aspiration to advance to a higher status which was realized in 1901. Two years later, championship games were already staged. By 1905, matches for the topmost position every season were done annually until such time that teams moved on to meet in the World Series. The franchises of the association are Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Toronto Blue Jays, among the others.

Prior to the expansion of the American League or it being part of the Major League Baseball, it had its own share of a colorful past. It actually started out as an organization that separated from the National League. After the demise of the American Association, there were a lot of internal problems that emerged. With that, a certain Bancroft Johnson decided to establish a new association even if it meant beginning from scratch as long as the reputation would be back to a clean slate. By the eleventh of October 1899, the plan was pushed through and AL was conceived surprisingly with the approval of NL.

National League

Considered as the world’s oldest baseball organization and even in the sports industry as a whole, the National League was established in the second of February 1876. Sometimes dubbed as the Senior Circuit which is in distinction to the Junior Circuit of the American League, it holds a record of forty- two wins and sixty losses in the World Series from the period between 1903 to 2006. There are sixteen teams that composed NL as compared to the fourteen of AL. The franchises are Atlanta Braves, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros, among the others.

Looking into the history of the National League, the year before it was officially established was characterized as shaky. It struggled from the lack of effective leadership. There were issues of unstable membership, supremacy of a single team and unsupervised scheduling. The “extremely cheap” charge upon entry to watch a game also became a problem. A lot complained that the small amount of fee did not provided franchises any incentive to follow the rules implemented by the organization. Since there were several problems that emerged, a certain William Hubert decided to separate from the association and establish its own.

As what was mentioned, the American League and the National League are now known as MLB Baseball that is continually making noise not only in the United States but even in its neighboring countries. The popularity of the organization can also be credited to a lot of the Major League Baseball players looked up to by enthusiasts. At this juncture, the association is gaining huge profits not only from the tickets sold every game but even by the sponsors who do not hesitate to invest because of the potential market through the wide audience that appreciates the sport.
