College Baseball Rankings
The hype of watching baseball tournaments does not end in the diamonds and coliseums. It goes beyond the walls of a stadium. You can experience it at home through multi-platform video games. You can feel the rush of baseball excitement on the internet through forums, chat rooms and interactive websites dedicated for the sport. And you can see and hear people on the street talking about the recent NJCAA game and, of course, updates on the latest college baseball rankings.
The National Junior College Athletic Association draws a myriad of fans to the stadium every game every year just like how NCAA, the Major League and the National League magnet people to the big arenas of America. Participated in by community college and junior college players the thrill and enthusiasm are always there. College baseball rankings aren’t the leftovers of the hype, but it’s an evident of a widely successful game.
Just May of 2007, the people of Colorado Springs and those who watched the Florida, Tennessee and New Mexico matches were blown away when the finish was made by the New Mexico Junior College with a ranking of No. 1 in the ultimate NJCAA baseball poll. This was a feat considered to be one of the most coveted in the history of college baseball rankings. Thunderbirds, the team from New Mexico swept the finals of the NJCAA Division 1 regular season baseball poll for the fourth straight week. Why was it called one of the most coveted feats in college baseball rankings?
Because the New Mexico Junior College was able to get their rankings through unanimous votes; they totaled a whopping 100 poll points. The regional voters contributed all of the ten 1st place votes. Following the tails of the New Mexico Thunderbirds are teams from Florida and Tennessee. The Miami Dade College finished off at the second spot while Tennessee’s Chattanooga State Technical & Community College managed to move its way to third rank.
The first set of the 2007 college baseball rankings were full of many surprises. But New Mexico’s position in the number spot was best admired by many NJCAA fans across the United States. The Thunderbird team managed to stay on the top rank with a general record of 45, 5, and 1. The record-setting feat was followed by the team’s regular season ender – a 4-game series against Texas’ Odessa College and the Lubbock team as scheduled for the Region Five tournament.
The second placer Miami Dade College capped off their season with a 6 – 5 win against South Florida Community College. The said win was made in a thrilling match of the Florida Southern Conference. For the Region Eight NJCAA tournament, the Miami Dade Sharks Team played versus the second placer from the Florida Panhandle Conference – the Gulf Coast Community College. The said match took place in the beautiful city of Winter Haven, Florida.
Chattanooga was the king of the hill in the Region Seven tournaments. The team took control of the Region’s number 1 slot before taking the third in the college baseball ranking. The team concluded their regular season with a Region Seven mark of 25 – 5 and a record of 47 – 9 defeating the Walters State Community College in Tennessee and leaving them behind at the fourth spot.
As of spring 2007 college baseball rankings, here’s the Top 10 run down. New Mexico Junior College (1), Miami-Dade College (2), Chattanooga State Technical Community College (3), Walters State Community College (4), Palm Beach Community College, (5), Alabama Southern Community College (6), Cochise College (7), Calhoun Community College (8), Texarkana College (9) and Grayson County College (10).
The New Mexico lead in the Spring 2007 NJCAA baseball ranking is proof that fans are always hands ready to support the best teams who deserve only the best. New Mexico’s amazing No. 1 achievement in NJCAA will once more fill up another page of the best games in baseball history.
