Baseball Drills

A lot of baseball fans are very much fascinated with the art of playing baseball. Most of these fans are seen on bleachers during baseball games, cheering their hearts out for their baseball idols. However, there are also some that enroll themselves on baseball classes to fully understand the baseball. Learning baseball entails a lot of concerns, from the baseball equipments, to the baseball trainings, and of course the baseball drills. Baseball drills are generally created to cater to both the amateur and professional baseball players. But then, some of the baseball drills tend to be very monotonous, to the point of being boring. That is why, baseball coaches have come up with interesting and fun ways of baseball drills to keep baseball players on their feet during the whole course of their baseball practices.

Baseball drills are grouped into six major categories: the baseball hitting drills, the baseball bunting drills, the baseball base-running drills, the defensive baseball drills, the throwing and the catching drills, and of course the team drills.

Baseball Hitting Drills- There are varied trainings that concern more on hitting. Coil is one hitting exercise that helps a baseball player to develop routines for getting proper coiling and stance. Another exercise is striding, helping the players to isolate the strides while understanding some other very important parts of striding. Hip rotation exercises develop proper hip rotations of the swings, plus helping a player with proper balance. Fence exercises help develop a player’s short but quick swing and is considered effective ways of players to hit on an inside pitch. The plate discipline tee drill on the other hand, helps a baseball player to learn their hitting zones with varied count. The tee drills are said to be the introductory drills towards learning plate disciplines that are in time useful for pitch locations.

Bunting Drills- These particular baseball drills are aimed to develop a baseball player’s sense of watching balls from the pitcher all the way to the bat. An example is the sacrifice form. This type of bunting drill aims to help a player on working for his mechanics as well as his timing of sacrifice bunts. This also allows coaches to evaluate different bunting exercises from different players at one single time.

Baserunning Drills- These types of baseball practice drills include three different drills, namely the No Defense drills, the Relay Race Drills, and the Pitch Trajectory Drills. All of these drills are aimed at allowing players to work on varied base running situations. These baseball drills are also considered good conditioning drills.

Defensive Baseball Drills- These defensive baseball drills include four sub categories: the pitching drills, the catching drills, the infield drills, and the outfield drills. The pitching drills help the pitcher in terms of accuracy. This is also advised to improve communications from the pitcher and the catcher. Likewise, the catching drills are designed to develop the skill of the player to block pitches on dirt. The infield drills are specifically for the basemen, to improve their footwork that is required to generally receive a throw. Finally, the outfield drills are designed for the outfielders to improve their performances during drop steps.

Throwing and Catching Drills- These are the types of baseball drills that focus on the proper throwing and catching of balls. Different techniques are taught that focus on wrists, elbows, long tosses, relay-throwing races, stationary throws, step and throw, shuffle throwing, and workup games.

Team Drills- Team drills are aimed for all the team members. These drills include the soft-toss scrimmage, the 3-2 and the 2-1 count scrimmage, the signal scrimmage, the double cutoff, and the pitch trajectory. What is good about these team drills is that, the players are given the chance to play on field with different baseball positions. Not only this is a learning experience, but also fun and great ways to bond with the members of the baseball teams.

Baseball drills are very useful for every baseball player. Aside from the fact that these drills are very useful and helpful, baseball drills are also great ways to bond and spend time with fellow baseball team members.
